sudanglo:
sit - seĝ'
Wouldn't sidu be better? A very intelligent dog might think seĝ' is a command to join you on the sofa.

By the way restu for stay.

For up and down, how about grimpu/saltu and suben
Whoops! That was a mistake on my part. I don't know why I wrote that!

sergejm:But don't think it's good to teach a dog Esperanto. Can it distingish English and Esperanto commands?
?

What do you mean by this? Dogs are given commands in languages all over the world... Dogs aren't born knowing commands in any language.

There may be command in two languages, which sounds alike, but means the different things. (But I can't name such in the mentioned above).
But if you add -u, this is not similar to English.
piedo
(Donu al mi) piedon!
(But this is not important to use accusative when speak to a dog)
Which command you use if you want left/right paw?

I usually don't distinguish which paw I want but if I did, I would probably use dekstran/maldekstran. Or, if they really don't get maldekstran, I would use the dreaded livan. *gasp* lango.gif

Once somebody who called in on the radio said she had a neighbor who trained a dog in Klingon! Apparently it worked out pretty well. Of course, this is all just hearsay on my part ridulo.gif.

Which is better, to teach Esperanto to a dog, or to a parrot ridego.gif?

Aha! A practical use for "liva!" Bwahahaha!!! I can report it to my thread 'Kion vi pensas pri la vortoj "liva" kaj "maldekstra"?'! But, then the conclusion will be that it is only suitable for canine Esperantists, and no self-respecting human would use it, except of course to a dog... But no one ever accused me of being self-respecting, lol. I don't even have a dog.

Yeah, I saw that thread. I don't mind words that are not from the base vocabulary. It can be especially useful in aviation/transportation and now, evidently, dog training. But since there are members here that are-- uh, esperanto fundamentalists would be the nicest way to put it, that it's not even worth getting into the argument with them...

Well, I see "liva" being used in situations other than dog training. Consider a military officer training his soldiers for example. Really, "liva" is great for commands in many situations, especially those wherein it may be difficult to hear the person giving commands. But for typical speaking, I think "maldekstra" is definitely the best option.

I think dogs are born knowing some commands. For example, ruf ruf, and bark bark. That is how I communicate with my dog. Just teasing.
