Kitchen Dresser seems like a good translation, in my opinion. According to the American Heritage dictionary, the old English word "dressour" meant "a table for preparing food". Edit: Apparently, the term "dresser" used in a kitchen is translated as "kuirejstablo" in Esperanto. Typically, in the US at least, these items are simply called "counters" now.

Essentially, islands are furniture pieces used to extend counter-top space for food preparation. The term island (in English and Esperanto) can be used to describe anything that is analogous to an island (see http://vortaro.net/#insulo).

Vikipedio uses "kuirejstablo" for kitchen counter and lernu defines it as "dresser". Viki states that an isolated kitchen counter (izolita kuirejstablo) is a "kuirinsulo". However, "kuirinsulo" is not listed in PIV or the other dictionaries I've searched but the term makes sense given the definition of "island".
