Ĝi does not line up with English it.

There are some languages with grammatical gender that use the "it" equivalent for babies and animals---and until recently, English was one of them. It is a bit jarring in translation, but that is one of the pitfall of reasoning that way.

It seems quite normal to my ear ...Tempodivalse:It's fine to use ghi with infants - don't you do this in English too.Very rarely. It isn't respectful in our culture. Normally, if we don't know the sex, we say "the baby" or "her/his baby".
