Since we are talking about missing words/concepts, can anyone point me at a list of the necessary terms to describe crochet....its not even in the lernu dictionary at all and the vikipedio entry is very bare.

Nowadays Esperanto wikis aren't trustworthy points of reference, even if la vikipedio is some times used as one of them. There are fields that haven't specific terms in esperanto because nobody in the community paid attention to them until today. A good dictionary is this http://reta-vortaro.de/revo/ better than the wiki one. I don't know if crochet has already proper translations in esperanto, may be, but anyway if you are a beginner just practice the language and if after some time you haven't found the terms you are looking for, use your imagination and the word roots and affixes, to create them.
