A partner and I are developing an audio drama project which takes place in an environment where Esperanto is the dominant language. Most of the actual dialogue between foreground characters will be in English, but a considerable amount of content in Esperanto will be needed, both for background audio and to create certain transitional dialogue effects.

Are there any lernu! members with intermediate to excellent Esperanto skills who might be willing to volunteer some time? We seek people with either or both of these capabilities:

- Ability to translate script dialogue from English to Esperanto
- Recording-friendly voice to read Esperanto dialogue fluently / fluidly (people of all ages and backgrounds are needed for this)

If this sounds interesting to you, please reply here and I will follow up with a contact email address.

Thanks!

edit: amended call for speakers to be widely inclusive

1. "Which takes place in an environment where Esperanto is the dominant language."

2. "Most of the actual dialogue between foreground characters will be in English[..]."
How do these two things work? If most of the dialogue is in English, how can Esperanto be the dominant language?

I'm not being clever/sarcastic; it's a genuine question.

Esperanto is the dominant language in the "world" of the production and is the native language of (most of) the characters, but the the drama is not targeted at an Esperanto-speaking audience, specifically - so, in effect, their dialogue is "translated" into English for the benefit of the audience.

That sounds interesting, but my microphone and computer are terrible malgajo.gif.

Edit: I could translate script though.

This is a clear cut case of TranslationConvention, a rather common trope any time languages other than the language of the intended audience is involved.

As for your request for text-to-text translation, just about anyone here can do that. As for your request for a voice cast, you might want to find and talk to Usonano78 - if you can get past his worldview. Just make sure neither politics nor arms come up, and I'm pretty sure he won't feign mental illness - he only seems nuts when he's political or talking about arms. He was never nuts, just political and there was a part when he was still getting over his irrationality. He seems to have detente with the world now. Don't put him through a psych exam, just make sure that if he meets your hiring requirements as well or better than anyone else.

That - wouldn't be very much of a recommendation to hire him. What I'm recommending is, look into hiring him.

Grown: Thanks for the link, it's good to know this has a name. I will also approach Usonano78. Carefully with hands in plain sight.
