Rogir:A difference between Linux and Esperanto is of course that even if you were the only one in the world using Linux, it could still benefit you, although a large community certainly helps. Esperanto, on the other hand, you cannot speak alone.
Why not? I like to speak to myself. After all I'm the only person who really knows what I mean rido.gif

I think that Esperanto could also use some of the open source methods. It's really surprising, how much people can do, if you provide them an infrastructure for cooperation. It's not only Wikipedia. A lot of great programs were written by comunities without spending any money.
I wonder why couldn't this approach be used for Esperanto projects?

Hi

I just went to synaptic, searched for Esperanto and installed all the packages. I then right clicked on the lower task bar & one of the options was to install a keyboard switcher, which I did: That was all.

I'm at work on Windows, if you need more specifics ask again & I will get them from my home box.

I could see this happening. Esperanto and the open source ideal are obviously a good match. But what kind of projects did you have in mind and how could they implemented?

Well, imagine, someone gets an idea of some video clip, but has no experience in animation - he writes a script and a basic idea. Someone else creates vector graphics. Another guys add voice, sound effects, etc. Finally somebody creates video clip out of it and uploads it to YouTube. Voilà video created. While none of the participants could do it on his own. I don't see any reason, why this model could not work for non-internet projects, like publishing a book, organizing an event or even something bigger.
All you need is an infrastructure to help all those people meet each other.

The latest version is 8.10 (LTS version is 8.04), which runs on x86 and x86-64. There are unofficial PowerPC Ubuntu downloads - or you can get version 6.06 LTS, which is still supported.

Yer I think they are now phasing out PPC. Just after asking this I managed to find 9.04 Alpha 6, can't wait till the oppurtunity to try it okulumo.gif

Vilius, what you are talking about is basically already happening. On ikso.net there is a group called E@I that does what you describe, as far as I know.

I think the translation into Esperanto isn't finished yet.
Here an interesting link. You can see translations of Ubuntu to many languages and their progress (at the bottom you can change the version).

ATENTION: Only if your Xorg version is < 1.5
Linux: Copy in your user home directory the file attached. You must rename the file to name ".xmodmap-eo"

Reinit session and you could write the specials characters pressing the ALT-GR key.
Examples: ĉĝĥĵŝŭ

For version Xorg >= 1.5 is better change the file in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols explain after. (In spanish I write in http://personal.us.es/gmolleda/lingvoj.html down)
