I saw this text. Is it correct?

Kio nova?

Shouldn't it be Kio estas nova? or Kio novas?

Miland (Profil megtekintése) 2016. június 10. 13:07:58

It appears in Ondo de Esperanto. The context there is an advertisement for EAB's summer school: Do, kio nova? Ne eblas ĉion listigi sed jen gustumo: 15-kilometra promeno en la ĉirkaŭaĵo ..

I would regard it as conversational in tone, and so taking liberties which one might not take in something composed as literature (apart from conversation).

sudanglo (Profil megtekintése) 2016. június 11. 10:09:49

It's informal, but it seems fine to me.

Vestitor (Profil megtekintése) 2016. június 11. 10:23:45

And would this be so for similar constructions like: Kio vera?

Do they have any use outside of magazine headlines or slogans?

sudanglo (Profil megtekintése) 2016. június 11. 11:10:21

I think the model would have limited generalizability, Vestitor.

Perhaps not Kio vera?

You wouldn't want to say Kio vera? anymore than Kio blua?

Ĉu pli noble en la menso fronti al la ... aŭ ...?

Jen la Hamleta demando,

Vestitor:Do they have any use outside of magazine headlines or slogans?
Why not? Its like German 'Hey, was geht?' = '(Hej,) kio nova?' = 'Kion de novaj aferoj okazis?' what is used in spoken conversation.

I could be wrong but Evildea(Youtube) C1-KER speaker seems to shorten lot like this. Spoken (Esperanto) language seems to be best practice of 'The principle of facultative precision' and 'Mut zur Lücke' (kuraĝo por metu breĉon).

Jen la Hamleta demando,
I concur that this construction might not be generalized.

Maybe the author had the Latin "Quid novi" in mind, which seems to be quite a widespread expression.

Alkanadi (Profil megtekintése) 2016. június 12. 7:53:16

Would it be better to say:

Kio veras
Kio bluas
Kio novas

Alkanadi:Would it be better to say:

Kio veras
Kio bluas
Kio novas
I doubt that "kio nova" refers to "kio estas nova" or "kio novas". I suppose it means "kio nova okazas" or "kio nova estas". "Nova" being an attribute of "kio".

Or the French expression Quoi de neuf?
